Introduction	Originally from Sydney, Nova Scotia, I am currently taking part in the MA coursework program at the University of Western Ontario in London. I consider myself a historian and a musician. The two often intersect and will undoubtedly influence my writing from time to time. As a historian, my interests lie in so called 'Big History'. Most of my undergrad was spent studying social theory and global historiography. It has led me to believe that there is a great deal to be learned by stepping away from strictly human histories. The scope of 'Big History' allows the historian to contemplate processes that, while fundamentally influencing human action and organization, have roots that go well beyond human creation. It is by stepping outside our own history and contemplating these grand narratives that the 'Big' historian can hope to achieve a better understanding of our particular animal.
