Introduction In June 1971 I put my draft card in the nearest mail box on my way to the airport... On it I had penciled "F... You! I know what kind of games you are playing" - actually a pretty long note, considering the size of the card. I was nearly 19 years old and had pulled an unlucky nr.71 in the draft lottery. I wasn't really evading the draft, just disgusted and in need of a vacation before hassling with the authorities. I was pretty much at ease with the idea of 2 years in jail with others of like-mind. I traveled around Europe on my rail-pass for a couple of months, met a Danish girl in Austria and got involved. My induction papers arrived that Fall. Made my choice and stayed In Europe, In Love (not a difficult decision). The US Govt. drug me to court in-absentia and slapped me with a Draft Evasion charge(federal offense!) Guilty! Stuck, but happy, I spent 7 years in and around Copenhagen before the US government let me off the hook with a general amnesty for draft "refusers" in the wake of Nixon's amnesty for real crimes. Still here after all these years. Wonderful wife and 3 great kids later. In retrospect, leaving the US behind was the best thing in the world for me.

The hair from your last haircut ... what would it say about your new style?

Not much. It would quietly lay there on the floor. Hair can't talk. The magical thinking in the question makes me feel a little uneasy ... Who writes these questions, I wonder.
