| Introduction | I’m Julia. If you knew me, you would know that I’m an exercise fanatic. And by ”exercise” I mean cake. I grew up in Monterey, California before moving to LA to get my B.F.A. from UCLA where I also studied physics. I graduated in 2008 and I’ve stuck around Southern Califonia ever since (mostly for the sunshine). I’ve had a great time exploring all the wilderness right outside the city and spend the majority of my weekends hiking and climbing. I also collect plants with a reckless abandon, the stranger and wilder the better and share my home with a flock of finches and an inordinately small dog. I try to work every day. I paint, draw, take pictures, write long lists and take notes. I am influenced by just about everything that I see but have a particular fascination for natural curiosities. Much of my work over the years has been about observing and recording. Sometimes I work directly from nature; mostly though, the content of my work stems from objects and ideas that I stumble across, become interested in, and start researching. I believe that beautiful things should be available to everyone. |
