| Introduction | While camping alone on Lake Coleridge in the South Island of New Zealand in early 2006, I felt so close to God and loved the solitude so much I knew I had to do this more. And I decided to quit working, and travel the world and do volunteer work, interspersed with times of solitude to reflect and connect with God. I started this new life in December, 2006, after giving away and selling most of my possessions. I no longer own a home, pay rent on an apartment, or own a car. I travel by bicycle or public transportation or rides, I sleep in my tent or on floors or in spare bedrooms or dorms, and I plan to continue this new life indefinitely. I am currently spending a year volunteering for the Hope Disabiliy Centre in Kashmir, India. I try to limit myself to one big plane ride a year, to keep my carbon footprint low. |
