Introduction | I am a pastor from an unchurched background deep in the Bible Belt, and a former police officer and police detective. Since accepting my call into the ministry in 1984, I have moved farther and farther north because I was disgusted and ashamed of the racial prejudice I found in churches in the South. God used me to minister to troubled churches, until He moved me to a spiritually healthy church in 2004. This church divides its giving equally between the Southern Baptist Convention and the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and is racially mixed. My wife Nancy and I have been married since 1978, and have two grown children. Our son, Sam, is a personal fitness trainer, and our daughter Michelle is an artist. In our 30+ years of marriage, we have had our ups and downs, and a few years ago, broke through to a new level of love and way of relating to each other. Having earned a Bachelor of Science degree (physics major, Birmingham-Southern College), a Master of Divinity degree (Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary), and a Doctor of Ministry degree (Drew University), I have some inkling of just how ignorant I am, and how great is the God who reveals Himself in Jesus Christ. |

Try writing your name with your other hand. Where was that person raised?
Somewhere that legibility is insignificant, maybe even where "unknown tongues" are written as well as spoken.
