| Introduction | While no writer is an island, I do live on one, at least part-time. I currently divide my time between Indiana and the Isle of Eigg - a small, idyllic hebridean island off the west coast of Scotland. My writing - mainly fiction - is inspired by the experiences of my life as a post-graduate in a non-post-graduate-friendly economical atmosphere, my time spent as the emotional possession of two countries and two cultures - both incredibly similar and vastly different, and the certainty that the tide will always come in on Laig Beach and an Indiana cornfield will always be one of the most beautiful sights to my eyes. I am consistently saddened by the dark news ever thrown into headlines and spotlight by the media. My writing, therefore, reflects the truth that I unassumingly find in this life - that beauty and love always exist among people and in this world. After all, the sun always rises - and not just on my island. |
