| Introduction | I went to China on a whim. I knew less than 10 facts, spoke no Mandarin, and had no idea what to expect. All I knew was that I didn't know what to do with my life as the time came for me to graduate from university in England. My parents encouraged me to see China for a year, and gave me two pieces of flippant advice: don't fall in love and don't adopt a baby girl. I ignored the first piece of advice, and the second, well, I'm still thinking about ignoring that one, too! Thankfully, they love my husband. And thankfully, I love his complicated family, too. |
