Introduction | My name is Brie and I'm a PhD student studying sea turtle reproductive physiology at Texas A&M University-College Station. My goal through pursuing my PhD is to become a comparative endocrinologist, because I love hormones and all that they can tell us about an animal's health, history and status. I am very passionate about using science to develop tools for conservation, and love to teach and work in outreach to help spread the message of how amazing science is and how it can help us and bring more meaning to our lives. |
Interests | About Me: I graduated in 2015 with a MSc in Biology from Southeastern Louisiana University. I earned my B.S. at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln with a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife and a minor in Spanish. I've been gradually honing my skills and building a career in sea turtle conservation; I started with a reptile and amphibian care internship at Henry Doorly Zoo, and the next year I had a marine life education and animal rehabilitation focused internship at the National Marine Life Center. I kept a weekly blog on their website, so if you're interested in other things I've written, you can access that at http://nmlc.org/author/brie/. I also have lab work experience from assisting with research at the Harold W. Manter Parasitology lab. The summer of 2012 led me to North Carolina where I worked directly with over 30 individual sea turtles representing 3 species at the Karen Beasley Sea Turtle Hospital. This blog serves as a means to update loved ones and colleagues of the progress I'm making in pursuing my career in sea turtle conservation. |
