Introduction	Gotham Professional Arts Academy is a small public high school that opened in Fall 2007 to serve a student population (in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn) that has been historically underserved, both by educational and cultural institutions. Gotham’s curricula and pedagogy are centered on a rigorous inquiry-based approach, which seeks to engage students with active questioning and learning, and performance-based assessment that relies on authentic measures of student achievement rather than standardized testing. Equally important to Gotham Academy’s mission is a comprehensive approach to arts education: first, to engage students by using the arts as a point of entry for learning; second, to create access to higher education and career opportunities in the arts for a population that remains underrepresented in the lucrative arts industry of their own city. As part of this mission, Gotham aims to facilitate and support student access to education and careers in the arts by creating sustainable partnerships with cultural organizations.
