IntroductionI started SWLing in 1969, but my pursuit of tropical band DX was fueled in the mid-1980s when I discovered DXpeditions-- a perfect way to log DX not possible from home. Trans-Pacific medium wave DX became another target after a memorable evening in February 1990, when good friend John Bryant and I experienced phenomenal South Pacific MW reception on our first-ever Grayland, WA (USA) DXpedition. Despite over 60 DX trips to the Washington State coast since then, none of the visits have produced the quality or quantity of Pacific MW loggings as during that amazing 1990 occasion. Catches that night included WVUV Nailoa, American Samoa on 648 peaking S-6; Radio Enga, PNG 1494; Radio West Sepik, PNG 1593, as well as Tonga 1017 at an impressive level. I was an editor & author with the Fine Tuning's Proceedings book series from 1989-1995, as well as publisher of club bulletins Cascade Mountain DX Club and DX/Northwest. I continue to enjoy radio hobby journalism with occasional reviews and articles. I work for T-Mobile USA as an art director & designer, and live in Puyallup, Washington, with my wife Rochelle and daughters Melanie (21 yrs.) and Carmen (18 yrs.).
