| Introduction | Father of John, Elyse, and Luke; widowed husband of Carolyn, who died from ovarian cancer on June 4, 2009; friend of coffee shops and breakfast cafes everywhere; pastor and teacher of First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset, Iowa; ordained in the Reformed Church in America on June 14, 2004 after the completion of studies at the University of Dubuque Theological Seminary; ministry interests include the theology and leadership of worship, preaching, social action and peacemaking, ecumenism, spirituality and prayer, the confessional statements of the Church. Some things which make my heart sing: books, coffee, laughter, family outings, playing catch, writing, baseball played outdoors on real grass, singing, vegetarian lasagna, classical music, the Guthrie Theater, the Iowa State Fair, the Minnesota State Fair, corn dogs (but not pronto pups), milk and cookies, chili on a cold day, friends, music, art museums, basketball, tennis, bicycling, and a long hike in the woods. |
