Introduction I have been married for 54 years to the talented and lovely Elizabeth (Betty) Ann Kilpela, nee Nordstrom. She is an accomplished watercolorist and owner of a gift shop and a clothing boutique in Copper Harbor. We have six very talented children: Capt. Don Jr., a cartoonist by avocation, Capt. Bennet, a writer and photographer, Susanne, a ceramic artist who teaches Art at Michigan Tech U., Jocelyn, a nurse with Dr.Pichai Sripaipan, Lisa, owner of the Irish Times restaurant of Laurium, and Capt John, who can perform miracles with wood when he isn't piloting the Queen IV. We have 11 grandchildren of whom I will write about on many occasions. I graduated from Mackenzie High (Detroit) in 1948, received a B.A. at Wayne State U in 1959, M.A. at WSU in 1962, and ABD until 1965 when I dropped out to look for a job that would support my family. This blog will probably unfold many more details about this wonderful family and our lives.
