IntroductionI have been living with Familial Adenomatous Polyposis (FAP) since a very young age, diagnosed when I was 14, in 1978. My father was diagnosed with FAP a few years earlier and died of duodenal cancer in Feb 1980. I had my 1st surgery, a Subtotal Colectomy, 1 month after he past away. Living from follow up scope to scope till July 2023 when it was discovered I had a duodenal mucosa polyp, when biopsied it showed low-grade dysplasia/adenoma, and there was another extensive large flat adenoma. The GI Doctor attempted removal, but due to limited mobility / angulation of scope polyp could not be removed. I was sent to see a surgeon in Sept 2023 and it was suggested I have a Pancreaticoduodenectomy, or as it is known, The Whipple. In Nov 2023 I had the Whipple, It turned out the larger polyp showed high grade dysplasia. This is my story of what it has been like living into my 60’s with FAP, recovering and living the “New Normal Life” post Whipple.
