| Introduction | My life in 1200 words? Can it be done? Born in Brooklyn, lived in N.J., Cranston R.I, moved to Maplewood, N.J. at 10. Graduated Columbia H.S. in 1965, Temple U. in 1969, majoring in Anthropology. Great major, but I was ready for LIFE!!! Worked as a social worker, did some drugs, lived cheap, saved money, went to Woodstock. Spent 1971 hitching around Europe and the Middle East with a backpack, doing occasional odd jobs, seeing some of the world. Meanwhile, parents sold the house and left Maplewood for a coop in Manhattan. Came back, stayed with them for a short while, moved to Brooklyn with some fellow semi-hippies. Parents got divorced. Worked at Barclays Bank. Met this really cute English guy called "Ber" whom they sent over to install the new computer program. We got together. Went to England in 1973. Married there in 1974 Still married! Came back to U.S. Lived in Boston, NYC, then Troutville VA (near Roanoke, to go "back to the land." 25 acres, raised chickens, pigs, vegetables, |
| Interests | the world around me, making the world a better place, star trek, reading, yoga, cooking, my family, Scrabble, assorted crafts |
| Favorite movies | About me - cont. Couldn't do it in 1200 characters. goats, ducks, donkeys, and two children, Rigel, 1977 and Norana, 1980. If asked, I could still milk a goat and castrate a pig. Very active in local food coop - been pretty much organic since then. Didn't really put down roots there, so I looked around and went to Law School at Washington & Lee I always liked to argue and give advice. Class of 1987, cum laude, not to brag, but hey why not.Moved back to N.Y. to work at Legal Aid (Criminal Defense) and so the kids could really know a grandparent (Ber's were in England, and both our fathers passed in Feb. 1981) Worked out great. Bought a big old Victorian house in Brooklyn and have been ensconced ever since. Got burned out after many, many trials. Tried civil law and hated it. There was a Teaching Fellows program started by NYC to bring people from other professions into teaching and did it. Became an elementary school teacher, first in General Ed, then Special Needs). Did that for 10 years, and then the round-the-clock-test-prep environment brought on by NCLB made teaching miserable, so I decided to retire. Retired in January 2010. That's all folks! At least so far. Life is good. |
