| Introduction | I was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and lived mostly in New York (my Dad worked in various IBM locations there) before moving to Raleigh in 1968. I graduated from Jesse O. Sanderson High School (class of 1976), and received a B.A. in Political Science and German in 1980 at UNC-Chapel Hill (after spending my junior year abroad at the Phillips-Universitaet, Marburg (West) Germany). I enlisted in the Navy in 1980 and served 20 years in naval intelligence, including postings to Rota, Spain, Atsugi, Japan, Sinop, Turkey, Denver, Colorado, Edzell, Scotland, and Fort Meade, Maryland. I speak rusty German and Russian, can manage tourist-level Spanish if pressed, and used to be able to read French. |
