IntroductionI'm a Midwest gal who loves to write but external forces (like needing to pay bills and prepping kids' snacks) keep running interference. This blog is my attempt to prioritize. There won't be posts every day, week, or even every month, but it's my canvas and it's a start. And, yes, it's been a long time coming...
InterestsThings that make me happy: rain on the roof (bonus for reading and writing during said rain), matinee movies, the smell of bread baking, eating bread, traveling (anywhere!), colossal red wine glasses, hearing my mom laugh, getting postcards in the mail, lavender lotion, my Baba's vegetable soup, hyacinths, shampoo at the hair salon, strangers who allow you to change lanes during rush hour, the color brown, green pepper and black olive pizza, brisk walks, mountains on the horizon, a salted summer tomato, curly hair, a new can of tennis balls, screened in porches, remembering how to conjugate a verb in Spanish, meringue toppers, warm socks, friends and family who call you out on your BS.
Favorite musicBrandi Carlile. U2. Fleetwood Mac. Mumford & Sons. I'm the absolute worst at "who sang what". I didn't realize until college that Led Zeppelin wasn't a person but the actual band. I wore a New Kids on the Block t-shirt in 4th grade because I understood them to be "cool", but then was exposed one afternoon at recess for not being able to name one band member. I blame my parents for tricking us into believing the oldies station or AM news radio were the only two options available on the dial and for not forcing us to learn something practical like the French horn or piccolo.
Favorite booksDon't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight by Alexandra Fuller, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab, Notes on an Execution by Danya Kukafka, Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi, The Dog Stars by Peter Heller, The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green, The Paper Palace by Miranda Cowley Heller, The Push by Ashley Audrain, From Scratch by Tembi Locke, Normal People by Sally Rooney, poetry by Ellen Bass, and fine, I admit, I liked Crawdads :)
