Which is more important to you and why: flexibility or expandability?

Alvy Singer said if the universe is everything and everything is expanding and someday it will break apart and that would be the end of everything. What's the point?" his analyst replies "It won't be expanding for billions of years yet...and we've gotta try to enjoy ourselves while we're here!" I think they both make good points.
