IntroductionI am a member of the Association of Gravestone Studies, Maine Old Cemetery Association, and Graveyard Rabbits. As part of my research and documentation of Kenduskeag Village Cemetery and South Branch Cemetery in Levant (formerly the Fiske Cemetery), I am documenting brief family genealogies at Ancestry.com. My academic background is in English and Anthropology. I also studied history and folklore and use my background in each of these academic areas to gain insight into the markers of cultural activity that memorialize the dead. For over 12 years I worked as registrar of the Hudson Museum at the University of Maine, caring for North America's largest collection of pre-columbian mortuary artifacts from West Mexico. Most recently, my professional interest has turned to archival studies, particularly the development of digital archives. I continue to provide private consulting to small museums and historical societies seeking help to organize and catalog collections.
InterestsMy primary research focus is on the depiction of personal identity in a public space through the use of gravestone design and symbolism as well as grave ornamentation.
