Introduction I am a sad ICU nurse in a drab hospital in some rather gloomy town in miserable England. Don’t get me wrong, I could choose to work in the all swinging, all that glam rock London with all that extra wad of cash you get as compensation for the high standard of living and the inability to afford decent housing in the big city. But nahhh, I prefer glum - A house in the country, a garden and massive view of the moody English sky ready to piss down rain anytime. I could have chosen to be a bum, live in absolute squalor in a shack in some tropical beach in the third world and aspire to be a writer. But I found out that there is enough gore worthy of critical study in Intensive Care to rival Shakespeare’s Macbeth. I could write a thousand and one pathetic lame excuses why I become a Nurse and invent egotistic justification for my self-induced misery - like service to humankind and all that existentialist crap. But there is only one thing I can own up to: I love the fact that I can work anywhere in the world that I want to. The world is one giant sweatshop for Nurses who will work for peanuts and a bit of sunshine, rain or snow.
