| Introduction | I'm celebrating my late-in-life years by cramming in all the discoveries and new experiences I can. Why wouldn't I? Living in Africa was a wish I first recognized when I was 20-something; I didn't know then and don't know now where that wish came from. A past life, maybe? Something in my horoscope? I retired from my work as a writer/graphic designer in the healthcare field in Dallas, Texas in 2007 and joined the Peace Corps. After a year in Namibia, and after a disappointing "medical termination" ended my Peace Corps career prematurely, I decided to freelance -- to choose my next destination and projects. I chose Uganda, where I've been living in Gulu in the northern part of the country. I've worked with a fair trade organization called One Mango Tree and at St. Jude Children's Home and School. I'm here to experience Ugandans and their beautiful country and perhaps to add some little something to someone's life. post script ... as of August 1st, I'm relocated to Morocco, living in the very-charming and little-known town of Bhalil, near Fez, where I teach English classes with Club UNESCO. Life is an adventure for me these days. |
