| Introduction | Author of Cool Green Stuff (Random House USA), Cool Hunting Green (Southbank UK, Jacana South Africa, East Street Australia/NZ), Cool Hunting (Southbank, Jacana, East Street). I'm a professional photographer with an interest in ingenious eco thinking and good design. I'm not much of a hippie, although I do have a great vegetable garden and ride a scooter. So how did I come to be obsessed with cool green stuff? It started with a strange fascination with Chindogu, the Japanese art of the nearly useless invention. I also saw cool hunting as a kind of chindogu in regards to ingenuity but infinitely more stylish and useful. But cool green stuff borrows from both, retaining the style but increasing the relevance, functionality and retaining some, but not excessive, hedonism. |
