Introduction TheBeast is in reality, 24-year old Abhinay Rao, once a university graduate, now an ALT teaching English in Japan and passionate enthusiast of all things comics, film, anime and more. This is the place where he will come to open the floodgates and present his opinions on the above, new and old. In his spare time (or also when not cosuming pop culture) he studies the Japanese writing system. He is always keen to share and discuss different facets of anime, comics and film. Should you wish to contact him, you can reach him at thebeastar51@gmail.com
Interests My main interests lie in the consumption and analysis of pop culture. I am most enthusiastic about the following areas: American comic books Japanese manga American and Japanese animation Films Fiction Non-fiction Although I am not as hugely interested as other, I do enjoy playing video games from time to time. The only genre that, thus far, I have paid real interest to is the role-playing genre. This includes both 'western' and 'Japanese' titles such as Dragon Age and Final Fantasy. Outside of this, I have a several other interests and hobbies. I am enthusiastic about the study of the language and culture of Japan. I also enjoy, as anyone would, spending time with my friends and family in a number of activies such as long walks and swimming, that is occasionally followed up by a well deserved pub-lunch!
Favorite Movies I can't really say I have a definite favourites list. At present, some of my personal favourite films include: The Terminator Superman: The Movie Princess Mononoke The Lion King Godzilla (1954) X-Men: Days of Future Past Planet of the Apes (1968) Dawn of the Dead (1978) Battle Royale Seven Samurai Bram Stoker's Dracula Aliens Top Gun Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Favorite Music I (for better or for worse), do not really follow or keep up to date with popular music as such. I do tend to listen regularly to original soundtracks from film, Japanese animation and video games. Some of my favourite composers, musicians and bands that have contributed to the television serials, films and video games I enjoy watching then would include the likes of: Michiru Oshima Yoko Kanno Hans Zimmer John Williams Asian Kung-Fu Generation L'Arc-en-Ciel Crystal King Mari Ijima Michael Giacchino Nobuo Uematsu Koichi Sugiyama Motoi Sakuraba Shoji Meguro Trent Reznor Kouji Wada JAM Project.
