| Favorite movies | Oh, come on. Impossible to have a favorite movie. The quick, easy lay-up here of course is Godfather I and II, but that's not really probable. I love slice of life movies, largely foreign, but not solely foreign. I don't really care much for fantasy, sci-fi or action movies, although I really enjoyed Avatar in 3-D. I enjoy a decent chick flick when I'm with my wife, but I confess that I'd probably never be moved to see one alone. I appreciate good animated films, but unless I'm accompanying a kid to one, I won't watch that either. I'm a sucker for documentaries and biopics, especially about the American Civil War or a great, larger-than-life personality of the past. |
| Favorite music | There are two kinds of music. They do this so we can keep it simple, but people allow trend to enter their musical appreciation when it shouldn't. The only two types of music in the world from which to choose are: Good Music and Bad Music. See how simple that was? So, if you like it, it's good. The definition of art, controvertible as it has been for centuries, must include the answer to the question, "does it evoke emotion?" I contend that if it makes you feel something it's good music, at least for you. I may hate it and call it horrible music, but if you like it, please don't listen to me. |
| Favorite books | Anything Dickens for fiction, although there are too many to name. Non-fiction: also too many to mention, but I'll start with David Halberstam, Shelby Foote and Truman Capote. |
