IntroductionI grew up believing that Boise, Idaho was a haven of green. Afterall, it took it's name from the French word for trees. Every fourth grader in Boise knows that: the story of how those early French trappers stumbled into the Boise Valley and shouted 'les bois' when they saw the verdant green. When I left Boise to spend my college years and early married life in Massachusetts I finally realized that those Frech trappers weren't excited because there were so many trees - in Massachusetts there are TREES - they were just glad to see a tree or two. Now I am living in Utah Valley, at the foot of a breathtaking mountain range. There are not many trees to speak of. Just the four little ones my husband and I have planted. We keep them growing on grilled cheese sandwiches, blueberry smoothies, morning snuggles, and evening bike rides through Lambert Park.
