IntroductionI'm a music scholar working on a conventional nonfiction academic study, launched by a 2006-7 Guggenheim Fellowship. It’s now so long in the making that I question whether I’ll ever finish it. What I have done on it so far is collected—In various degrees of rough, finished, and published (bits)—on AsiAmericanDreamusic (asiamartists.blogspot.com/).

At some point in the slog of it all, I got inspired to write a fiction novel; the conceits and m.o. of it suggested to me ways to reflect the music in the written word that analytical scholarship and reportage couldn’t do. That too is now long in process, and has generated roughly equal amounts of words, also in various stages of sketches and notes, drafts, and finished prose. My Lifelong Shadowed blog (newoldmusic.blogspot.com) will (soon) host most of it, as do the opening sections of AsiAmericanDreamusic.

If experience holds, no one will even notice it until and unless I try to package, push, and hustle it, which I’ve never been less inclined to do (but that may change when/if it’s done). Meanwhile, I get to share what’s there with anyone who might find it of interest.
