InterestsI've had plenty of time lately to think back about how fortunate I've been in the past with regards to racing. I've really realized how lucky I've been, especially when I think about the fact that I got to make it all happen somehow even though I'd lived a pretty simple life up until then. My parents were both just school teachers and my mom was even an Avon lady for a while and then they did Amway together. My dad was a stock guy and part-time manager during the summer at a local grocery store to help bring in some extra bucks. We did a lot of tent camping for our "vacations". But somehow, I was able to put together this racing thing and live in it's dream world. I even owned my own semi for a while and I got to drive with Richard Petty in a race and drive at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I even got to race with the Winston Cup guys twice over in Japan and Coca Cola paid for it all and I rented 2 of my 4 racecars to Japanese drivers in the race to earn myself a few bucks and to get 45 of my friends a free trip to Japan. I got to hang out with some pretty wealthy people and live the high life. I even gave out the prizes to the winners of a horse race at a track that had just been built in Iowa. HOW COOL. So, that kinda makes it even seem a little more depressing that it all seems to have ended when I had that crash a few years ago on a borrowed motorcycle. I don't even like motorcycles and it scares the heck out of me to see guys riding them and splitting lanes on the freeway or dodging between cars to get up to a stoplight. So, why me? Why did I even ride a motorcycle? I don't even remember riding it. But my son was there and he even had to watch me crash and lie there unconscious or flailing around. YUK! Poor guy. I almost feel lots worse for him than I do for myself.
