| Introduction | I started my newspaper career in 1975 at the weekly York County Coast Star in Kennebunk, Maine, covering everything from football (of which I knew absolutely nothing) to planning boards (of which I knew even less.) Later I worked as a reporter and editor at various Maine daily and weekly newspapers. The bulk of my career was spent as managing editor of the Journal Tribune in Biddeford, Maine. I began teaching journalism at UNH in 1995, and I have been here off and on ever since. I was briefly part of an ownership team of the now-defunct Maine Times, a statewide weekly newspaper. In 1998, with a friend and fellow journalist, I founded Points East, a boating magazine in Portland, Maine. I edited and co-published the magazine for 10 years before selling it. I have also worked as the resident advisor to the Free Press, the student newspaper of the University of Southern Maine. My home is in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. |
