| Introduction | I was born and raised in Toluca, Illinois, and attended the public schools in this central Illinois community. I graduated from Wartburg College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955 and graduated from Wartburg Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree in 1959. I married Roberta Bock in 1957. We moved to Springfield in 1960, and I started my professional career as a high school history teacher. My focus changed from teaching to librarianship in the 1960’s, and I received my Master of Library Science degree from the University of Illinois in 1969. I started working at Lincoln Library, the public library of Springfield, as the Young Adult Librarian in 1970. I was appointed Assistant Director in 1972 and Library Director in 1981. I retired from Lincoln Library in 1993, and I currently devote my time to freelance writing and community volunteering. |
