| Introduction | My name is Anu and I am part of a circle of animal friends in Sarnath, India. We provide free vet care and adoption services as well as sponsor education for children that adopt an animal. The connexion between animals and humans is a timeless one - we are part of a web of life. Perhaps its really a matter of our hearts and of finding a way to become present - no matter how dismal or difficult things may seem. When I first came to Varanasi, it was clear there was no animal shelter around. However, there was a hospital and the vet really friendly! Together, we began to vaccinate street dogs and then to find them homes. Surprisingly, this was easier than expected - there were concerns over vaccinations and safety. It was obvious that people cared for animals but had few means to express them. A link animals and humans was children - they were naturals. So, SASS became a way of providing free education to kids that adopted a stray. These may seem to be small changes but perhaps they are a beginning.
