| Introduction | Mickey Getty, graduated from Florida Atlantic University where she studied writing on both a undergraduate and graduate level. She has one published novel, The Junk Lottery. Her book tour has included Texas; Vermont; Philadelphia, PA; Old Saybrook, CT Doylestown, PA; Alvernia Senior College, Reading, PA; Berks County Libraries; Book groups in the Reading area; Wyomissing, PA; Lancaster County, PA. Mickey is writing another novel: Soot, a work depicting the struggles of an Irish immigrant wife of a coal miner who lived in Schuylkill County in the late 1800s. She has been the recipient of several awards: The National League of American Pen Women Second Place Letters Award, the Thomas Burnett Swann memorial Scholarship, The Florida Atlantic University World AIDS Day Literary Expressions Competition several years in a row, and the fiction award from the Pennsylvania Writer’s Conference for “The Birth of William,” an excerpt from The Junk Lottery. You can find Mickey Getty often on Second Sundays in her GoggleWorks studio, 327, where she offers free one-half hour writing critiques for anyone who brings a sample of their writing. |
