| Introduction | This is a work of obsession and passion devoted to the beautiful images, vivid colors and fearless action choreography found in the 143 films of William Witney. In the opinion of this author and others (look no further than the Quentin Tarantino quote on the home page), Witney was the greatest action filmmaker who ever lived, and, at 21 years old, the youngest director in the Hollywood studio system (a distinction he holds to this day). This ambitious filmmaker is credited by many with being the first to choreograph fight sequences, and he complimented this approach to blocking action with inventive camera angles and rapid-fire editing that heightened the on-screen energy. I'm an entertainment publicist living in the northwest San Fernando Valley, just blocks away from the Santa Susana Pass and Iverson Ranch locales where Witney shot many of his greatest Westerns. Although I reckon his Vincent Price / Charles Bronson vehicle "Master Of The World" may well be his finest screen achievement, I also share Tarantino's love for Witney's many Roy Rogers collaborations, and, not surprisingly, his classic juvenile delinquent melodrama "Cool And The Crazy." |
