| Introduction | All my interests can be summarized by the phrase Technics & Civilization: Man and machine, Man = machine = man ? And then, not just from a synchronous point of view, but through history, from the first moments of self-consciousness to hi-tech (or should I rather call it ‘non-tech’?) society of today. I'm interested in information technology, computers and the history of computing, the combustion engine, automotive machines, motorcycles. Main influences: Aldous Huxley, Samuel Butler, William Morris, Heidegger, Lewis Mumford, Robert Pirsig, John Berger, Douglas Engelbart, George Dyson. Without understanding, there is no technology. If you refuse to engage with technology, technology refuses to engage with you. Our own language is technology, our speech is too. Writing is technology and technology is culture. The first flint with man-made sharp edge is technology; it was the first difference that was consciously made to make a difference. Quotes: - One truly understands only what one can create (Giambattista Vico) - Any difference that makes a difference (Gregory Bateson’s definition of Information ) |
