Introduction Story-teller. Grew up in Groningen. Studied World Religions and Japanese Language and Culture at Leiden University. Spent one year as an exchange student at Waseda University in Tokyo. Did the MA in Japanese Religions at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. Did research on and wrote about Japanese Christianity. Travelled around Asia. Lived and worked in Vietnam for a year and a half. Is married to Nhung. Lives in Oslo. Works as a doctoral research fellow at Oslo University. Does his PhD research on 'Shinto' in contemporary Japan. Likes long distance walking, abstract expressionism, modern myths, bodhisattvas, fresh fruit, contemporary philosophy, Chăm culture, comparative religion, cooking, green politics, forests and East Asia.
