haiku-ku

| Introduction | Haiku-ku is a totally unknown form of integral poetry, an early 21st century revision of the hokku and haiku by a crazy EurAsian person called Want Nasi. A traditional hokku consists of a pattern of approximately 5, 7, 5 morae, phonetics units which loosely correspond to the syllables of Western languages. It also contains a special season word –the kigo- descriptive of the season in which the hokku was set. Hokku often combine different elements into a unified sensory impression, with a pause (the kireji or “cutting word”) at the end of either the first five or second seven morae. The haiku-ku could follow these rules, but could also follow a more free-form movement depending in which cultural context, in which language and in which state of being the experience took place. It is unknown when the first haiku-ku was actually born, but we do know that it probably took place somewhere between Denver and Boulder. |
