Introduction | I am a clinical therapist for children and adolescent males with a diagnosis with developmental disabilities (eligibility requires MR, but ASDs/PDDs are frequent in comorbidity) OR a dual diagnosis including the above & any of a number of significant ED/BD diagnoses, in a community-integrated, residential setting. I'm sure that sounds like the most boring, clinical thing ever, but I cannot think of a less boring job (when, for instance, was the last time YOU wrestled a chair-hurling, 350 lb. 19 year old male to the ground in self-defense? Yeah, my last time was about 3 weeks ago!). I hold a Masters degree in Social Work (MSW) and ISBE type 73 Certification, and Medicaid Rule 132 QMHP Status...by day. By night, I'm an avid observer, over-thinker, and grammatically obsessive-compulsive writer. Oh, I also teach as an adjunct in the School of Social Work at Aurora University in Aurora, IL. Policy is my forte, but I'd love if I were offered a feminist theory class....AHEM... |
Interests | Pretty much anything- I'm easily distractable and research everything new that I find even semi-interesting. I'm really good at Trivial Pursuit. ;-) |
Favorite movies | Revolutionary Road, Moulin Rouge, Just Friends, The Sweetest Thing, Secret Window, Amelie, Chicago, Girl Interrupted. |
Favorite music | Adele, Christina Perri, Pink, Lady Gaga, The Doors, Van Morrison, Joan Jett, Incubus, Phish, old-school Billy Joel I have no business liking because he's older than my dad, Rufus Wainwright, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, and Seth MacFarlane- yes, I consider him a musician; he has a gorgeous voice. |
Favorite books | House Rules, by Jodi Picoult; Slaughterhouse Five, by Kurt Vonnegut; The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath; She's Come Undone, by Wally Lamb; and Play it as it Lays, by Joan Didion. (Also, clearly for my own interests, the Twilight saga.) |
