Introduction Samuel Ravengai is a Zimbabwean born director and theatre maker working in South Africa. Ravengai is currently Senior Lecturer in Performance at Wits University’s Theatre and Performance Department, in Johannesburg, where he teaches across a range of theory and practical courses covering performance, directing, writing, South African theatre and cultural myths. He received both his PhD and MA in theatre from the University of Cape Town. He is a member of the International Federation of Theatre Research (IFTR/FIRT) where he works closely with the African Caribbean Theatre and Performance (ACT&P) Working Group to which he is one of the founding members. He is particularly interested in the interconnection of race, nation, empire, migration and ethnicity with cultural production. Ravengai’s most recent publications are in Performing Migrancy and Mobility (2014), Theatre Dance and Performance Training 5 (4) 2014 and South African Theatre Journal 28 (2) 2015. He has performed nationally and internationally.
