| Introduction | My name is Antonieta Mercado. I am a professor at the University of San Diego Communication Studies Department, where I teach classes on Media and Conflict, communication and social justice, Introduction to Communication, International Media, and Media and Social Movements. I am interested in theorizing communal forms of civic participation and contemporary democratic practices. I study immigration, citizenship, identity and civic participation among Indigenous Mexicans in the United States and Mexico. Mexican people encompass a big diversity, and I study that, with the awareness that a national arrangement does not necessarily determine a culture. |
