Introduction I am in Sikasso, Mali doing something I have wanted to do for a long time---work in Africa. I am working with School for All and Save the Children USA. We are in this town for about two weeks. The first week, we are doing a workshop on child centered learning concepts and techniques to a group of 30 Malian teachers. After that, we hope to be able to visit some other projects in this area. At the end of the two weeks, we will go to Bamako, the capital city to do a bit of touring and then finally on to Senegal where we will travel and tour a bit more.
Interests You all know me and really, are my interests all that captivating that you would read about them on a blog!!?
Favorite Books I'm reading Garbo laughs by Elizabeth Hay at the moment. Enjoying it. The main character is frightenly familiar! New book: Half a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie--about the struggle for the creation of Biafra in the late 60s. Really good! New book:Things Fall Apart, considered the first African novel in English by Chinua Achebe The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid by Bill Bryson.....very funny book abut growing up in the 50s, a time of innocence when cigarettes and coffee were good for you ..."coffee kept us alert and purring productively". The book explores the geography of our childhood and for anyone who grew up during the 50s and 60s will laugh out loud. Last book of the trip:City of Shadows, Ariana Franklin, a murder mystery set in Berlin, 1920s....highly recommend.
