| Introduction | I have been working as a Certified Child Life Specialist for over 20 years and have worked inpatient units as well as outpatient clinics. It used to make me crazy (and still does!) when I would be doing distraction to help a child during an IV start and it seemed like the whole world was in the room doing what they assumed was "helping." It was not helping...no matter HOW you looked at it. People were all talking at the same time, the child was forced to lie down, the patients were crying,they were terrified and didn't know what was going on...it was total chaos!! Things that seemed to be common knowledge to a child life specialist, weren't always common knowledge to other healthcare staff. I decided to develop an acronym that would teach staff how to create a less threatening environment for children undergoing medical procedures. What I developed is called ONE VOICE. |
| Favorite movies | I am a huge John Hughes fan (1980's classics) and am often heard quoting movies that no one else seems to remember. I love funny movies and action flicks far more than I enjoy love stories...although if I'm ever able to discover a nice combination of Edward (Twilight), Hugh Jackman, Denzel Washington, and Chris Farley (I said I loved comedies)...then I just might be tempted to watch one. |

| Favorite books | Any books by John Saul, Stephen King, Elizabeth Gilbert (Eat, Pray, Love...it's more of a comedy...give me a break)and the Twilight series...yeah...I know...they're love stories...sheesh. |
