| Introduction | Spent my first 11 years on Teesside then moved to Jersey, CI (plenty of beaches, lots of sunshine, but a bit small). Left at 18 and spent 3 happy, drink-fuelled/academically-uninspiring years in Newcastle before heading down to London (meeting Madeleine) and 6 years in Peckham, Catford and Lewisham (SE London's finest). Headed west to Somerset in '91 and 6 years under Ham Hill. A complete about-turn saw Madeleine start a PhD at Bristol and a long-term plan to experience life across the Atlantic. Three great years in Clifton (and successful doctorate) led to a job in Berkeley, California and 2 years in the East Bay (great bike riding). Madeleine's research work then took us down PCH to Santa Barbara and 3 years of sand, sea and sun (more great bike riding). Following a short stop in Perth, Western Australia, we currently find ourselves in the former jute-making capital of the world, Dundee. Quite a contrast, but so far so good. |
