InterestsIF I COULD BE ANYWHERE RIGHT NOW I'D BE:, Shooting with a great Aussie crew in the Australian bush wearing jeans and R.M. Williams boots...flies buzzing, dirt underfoot hard as concrete, kookaburras laughing overhead and swooping down to snatch a banana right out of your hand...., Otherwise I like either sophisticated urban or rustic mountains. Many close friends in Amsterdam; have spent a lot of time there. Munich for the art galleries. London because I lived there (feels like home). Sydney any time - long to live there again. Anywhere in Italy. A little B&B above Montreaux (Switzerland) run by a gourmet chef named Helmut. Ditto for Le Mas Candille in the hills above Cannes. Edinburgh and all parts north (particularly the Isle of Mull). Fly fishing in Banff. 18th C. inn in Kyoto.
Favorite musicBlessed with incredibly diverse ears. Currently on my iPod:, Cannonball Adderly, Beastie Boys, Bend It Like Beckham soundtrack, Common, Cowboy Bebop soundtrack, Crowded House, Fatboy Slim, Gilberto Gil, João Gilberto, Handel vocal duets, lots of Emmylou Harris, The Clash, Crowded House, lots of Eminem, the King's College Choir, acoustic rock from Lifehouse and Maroon 5, Nickelback, Norah Jones, Bach Magnificat, Mahler 5th & 10th, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Pink, a retro dance mix of Frankie Goes to Hollywood/George Michael/Scissor Sisters/Jimmy Sommerville, Jubilant Sykes (black opera singer on gospel standards), Shakira, Tallis Scholars, Ali Farka Touré, Tuck & Patti, U2, the Verve Remix albums, The Vines, Nancy Wilson, and I have juxtaposed the original Walkin' on Sunshine (remember Katrina and the Waves?) with a Spanish language version set to a seductive samba rhythm - fantastic.
Favorite booksI am a big reader - always reading at least one book. Peace Like a River by Leif Enger (great 1st novel - reminds me of To Kill a Mockingbird), Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Gilead, Life of Pi, Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Running with Scissors (wow!), Dirt Music (by Tim Winton funky Australian writer/surfer), Journey to the Stone Country (another Australian named Alex Miller), Freakonomics, The Wild Iris (in love with Louise Gluck), The Fabric of the Cosmos, America (the audiobook - wonderful delivery by Jon Stewart), Blue Ocean Strategy, Winter Morning Walks: 100 Postcards to Jim Harrison, Harry Potter and the Deadly Hallows, In a Sunburned Country, Suite Francaise, Reading Lolita in Tehran, A Thousand Splendid Suns, The Shadow of the Wind, Pattern Recognition (William Gibson), anything by Federico Garcia Lorca (in Spanish).
