| Introduction | Hello, my name is Jennifer Fitzsimons. I am a 34 year old happily married, mother of two young children and I was just diagnosed with breast cancer on Feb 7th, 2008. In learning of my diagnosis the first thing that came to my mind is what could I do to make this a positive journey and how can I help bring awareness to other young women. Having small children is a challenging, time consuming and ultimately rewarding time in your life. In between juice boxes, going to the park, working, making lunch and applying band aids and hugs there is usually little time for yourself. We know that we should do a monthly breast exam but it is not always at the forefront of our minds. Moms are the first to usually put themselves last. A year from now I expect to have a huge party, I am putting the date on my calendar today. I expect to be surrounded by all of my friends and family and to celebrate not just life but the opportunity that I have been given to take my story and bring awareness to young women who think that this too could not happen to them. |
