IntroductionI'm a bona fide original real native Texan, born in Amarillo long enough ago to be in the sophomore class of Baby Boomers. I began my newspaper career on the San Angelo Standard-Times in 1967. I started reviewing Texas-related books the same year and haven't stopped. In addition to reviewing books, I write books. I have had 21 non-fiction titles published. My latest book, "Texas Panhandle Tales," came out earlier this year. My best-selling and longest work is a two-volume history of the Texas Rangers: "Time of the Rangers: The Texas Rangers 1900 to Present," which hit the book stores in mid-August 2009 and "The Texas Rangers: Wearing the Cinco Peso, 1821-1900," (New York: Forge Books, $25.95)which came out in 2008. These two books constitute a 250,000-word, nearly 1,000-page popular history of Texas' legendary law enforcement agency. I am an elected member of the Texas Institute of Letters and have won numerous journalism awards over the years.
