Introduction | “Corocoro” is the name artist Raúl Peláez-Prada has given his body of work. The cacophony of that name finds its roots not only in the “call and response” traditions of South American music, but other forms of expression, particularly South American literature, wherein contradiction and contrast foment the rapport across the divides of race, gender, class, opposing historical accounts and, moreover, the boundaries of compartmentalized imagination. In those interstitial spaces is where Peláez-Prada’s work becomes dynamic. At the thresholds is where his works cease to be things and assume the nature of a single place. ..Corocoro. |
