| Introduction | A gentleman-farmer, a day's ride west of Philadelphia, I have a good wife, fair children and a modest plot of land. In the past I augmented my living by sharing my observations and arcane knowledge with my publisher, B. Franklin of Philadelphia. Together we made a tidy profit. Ben retired from his print business and went on to make a name for himself in public service. I lost a good collaborator but America gained a founder. All in all a good trade. Now that the means to deliver my quaint maxims to my neighbors and fellow countrymen has been reduced to the cost of an e-mail stamp, I'll endeavor once again to share my observations, as the muses move me. I do this not because the world is in need of another opinion (though we could certainly use more considered ones) but because I can. |
