Introduction I’ve been singing since I was a baby, standing up in the playpen, singing along with my mother, who is also a classically trained singer. I sang in my first choir at the age of 3. Piano lessons began at 5, guitar and 6, and I began working on my voice at 7. When I was 9, my parents took me to see my first opera: La Boheme. I was hooked. I began to seriously study voice, acting, and languages. College studies continued these pursuits. Finally, life took me to Germany, and 7 years of study and performance in several leading operatic roles. Since then, we’ve lived in Wyoming, finally settling in Albuquerque, where I sing with Opera Unlimited, and occasionally, Opera Southwest. All vocal technique, regardless of style of singing, comes down to the same basics: good posture, proper breathing and good focus. When you study the piano, you can see your instrument. As vocalists, we can’t take our instrument out and examine it. This makes the challenges of singing and teaching singing unique, and, in my opinion, exciting! Each lesson is a new adventure; exploring what each person's voice is capable of doing, and we go boldly together where no one has gone before. . .
