| Introduction | Saw Stanes off through her 100th year in Coonoor, got a degree in agriculture and worked for AVT in the plantations. Like a mid-life crisis a Commonwealth Fellowship lead me to the UK for MSc, then back to India to grow and process vegetable crops. Much as I enjoyed working for the companies and accumulated friends I looked for something different. Three years later I got another scholarship for a PhD, also in the UK. I am now trying to establish a consultancy firm for agricultural and rural development, to begin to give back to India and the third world what I got from them.. |

| Favorite books | now Kiran Desai, but I would have liked a different ending - like Sai getting married to Gyan and living happily ever after or at least Father Booty going back to India and living happily ever after with his cows!! |
