| Introduction | Call me Fern Greene. At the moment, I'm the over-educated, under-employed wife to Franklin Greene, and mother to Freddie and the soon-to-be Fiona. (She's due in October.) Until about a year ago, I was a typical time-stressed, exercise-deprived, budget-worried middle class professional type. But then my husband landed one of those jobs, the kind that pays all the bills and then some - assuming you're willing to work like a mule - and we relocated to Metro DC. It's given me this funny space, where in the midst of my adult life, I'm at leisure to think about how we live it. What's more, I can't help but see the defects in our old ways of doing things. This blog is a bit of navel-gazing. I'm not conducting original research or working towards sweeping change. Instead, I'm using it mostly to keep a record of how we're doing on our quest to go greener - greener than we were before, greener that we could be given our backgrounds, greener than we'd ever planned when we set out. |
