| Introduction | The Ellerslie School Health and Safety Committee was officially commissioned on 8 Feb. 2018. Initial members were Mr. R. Leacock, Dep. Principal and Committee Chairperson (Ag), Mr. O. O. Worrell, current Chairperson & Coordinator and Mr. P. Browne, Assistant Coordinator, both chosen by the Principal, Lt. Col. E. Brathwaite to receive training in Occupational Safety and Health through the auspices of the Career Development Institute (CDI) and the TVET Council of Barbados. Eventually leading to the Certificate & N/CVQ in Occupational Safety and Health Level 2. Messrs. Browne and Worrell successfully completed this course of training in 2018. Under Subsection (1) (a) and Subsection (2) (a) of Section 103 of the SHaW Act, the employer is mandated to establish a Health and Safety Committee where there are 25 or more persons employed in the workplace. This is further underscored by the inclusion of a wider cross-section of staff members— inclusive of administrative, teaching, ancillary and office staff along with union representatives. |
