About me

Introduction Greetings from lovely Nashville, Tennessee! I am a native Texan with family scattered across the great state and a longing to see the bluebonnets every spring, but the temperate weather and beautiful seasons of Tennessee keep me here. I originally came to Nashville to attend graduate school at Vanderbilt University, where I earned my PhD in Religion. I studied Christian history, most particularly the history of the medieval era, and wrote my dissertation on women who participated in heretical groups during that time. I have taught religion and philosophy courses at universities in both full-time and adjunct positions, as well as less academic teaching out in the community. I wrote a college-level textbook on Catholic Church history published in 2008 and have also done other writing on Catholicism, most notably for www.patheos.com, but nowadays my work is mainly on world religions and sacred texts. I am the mother of a very active fourth-grader, and when I am not working I am often to be found at a park running after a smiling boy or reading a book in the shade while he does the running. I am also teaching him the joys of hiking, and hope to introduce him to kayaking soon.
